Bertie Edwards was born in Brandon in 1896 (Thetford Q1-1896 4B:364), son of Henry George and Susan Elizabeth EDWARDS (née GRASS).


1901 census...Aged 5, he was living in Stores Lane, Brandon with his father Henry G.Edwards [27] stationary engine driver; his mother Susan [25]; brothers Herbert [7] and Wesley [3]. All were born in Brandon.

1911 census...Aged 15, a farm hand, he was at London Road, Brandon with his parents, brothers Herbert (labourer) and Wesley and sister Mabel [9] born in Brandon.



Enlisted in Norwich.
The war diary:-
"2nd Oct - Violent bombardment continued -during the night we dug a fire trench 400 yds long connecting up our right with the French left, bombardment lessened at night.
